On May 21 the GSEP community celebrated its new graduates at the picturesque Alumni Park at the Malibu campus. The Psychology Division celebrated student achievement in the morning with guest speaker Gail Wyatt, professor and research scientist in the Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences at UCLA. Wyatt coordinates with behavioral scientists to recruit volunteers from underserved populations to participate in research reflecting the socio-cultural implications of HIV/AIDS. She has received numerous honors for her scientific accomplishments, mentoring, and teaching.
Thelma Meléndez de Santa Ana, appointed assistant secretary for elementary and secondary education at the Department of Education by President Obama, recognized graduates of the Education Division that afternoon. In her role, she administers polices for programs to assist state and local education agencies improve success for elementary and secondary school students.
After the presentation of the candidates, GSEP hosted a reception with light refreshments on the lawn for friends, family, and faculty to share their memories of another successful academic year.
